Barbos Come Up 12th at Nationals

The Denver Barbarian 7s traveled to San Francisco with a young squad to compete in the National Finals for the 11th straight year, and came away in 12th place.

Tournament Report by Howard Kent

The Barbos were the number two seed coming out of the West RFU territory to Nationals which given the amount of new personnel is great.  At the National Club 7s we took 3rd in our Pool on day one; lost to Youngbloodz (MN) 10 - 12, beat OMBAC (CA) 10 – 5, lost to Schuylkill River (PA).  Played in the Bowl Quarterfinal on day two; beat Pittsburgh Harlequins (PA) 28 -14, but lost a player to injury.  Unfortunately we came up short in the Bowl Semifinal losing to host team San Francisco Golden Gate (CA) 14 - 19 and then losing the Atlanta Old White (GA) ending up taking 12th place.

12 players for the Barbos at Nationals:
Joe Bach
Ken Brenneman
Maximo de Achaval
Adam Drury
Ben Haapapuro
Jake Humphrey
Ross Kantor
Jody Kramer
Drew Legge
Chris Moreno
Bryce Spaur
Dan Uresk

This was our 18th appearance in 26 Years at the National Club Rugby 7s.  While we lacked team speed we had great effort from our players and we continue to develop players that improve their skills and contend for places on the US National team.  We also were fortunate to have the participation and commitment of players who did not make our side for nationals but continued to train with us right up until the last week of the season; in particular Eric Henry and Philip White.

We are the only Club to make the National Club 7s the past 11 years in a row (semifinals 7 of those 11).
