Barbos Open Home Season with San Francisco and Highlanders

Denver Barbarians continue their ambitious partnership with Dick’s Sporting Goods Park with a rugby triple header this Sunday, March 14, 2010, in that state-of-the-art 18,000 seat stadium.

Kick-offs for all these matches are:
11:00 am - Queen City  v. Denver Harlequins
1 pm - Barbarians RSL v. San Francisco Golden Gate
3 pm - Barbarians A v. Denver Highlanders

The highlight of the day will be Denver Barbarians’ match against San Francisco Golden Gate, 2009 Rugby Super League (RSL) Champions in the opening 2010 RSL match for both clubs .   The RSL is the top rugby league in the United States.  The Barbarians fell in San Francisco in last year’s RSL Semi-Final 19-16, when SFGG scored on a try on the last play of the match.  These two clubs have split the last 4 decisions, with Denver winning in San Francisco in 2007, in Denver in 2008, while SFGG swept Denver in the regular season match, as well as, the RSL semi-final in 2009.

The Barbarians v. SFGG match will be followed by the Barbarians’ D1 side’s league match against long time Western Rugby Football Union rival Denver Highlanders.  The Barbarians’ D1 side hope to improve on their D1 Fall record of 3-2.  The Fall Season included a heavy loss to the Highlanders, a score that the Barbarians hope to even on Sunday.  Denver’s D1 playoff possibilities are completely in their control with half of the league matches still to be played.  The Barbarians will be seeking some consistency.  Their Fall record showed victories over teams at the top of the table (Aspen and Glendale) while dropping 2 of 3 from the remainder of the league.
