The Denver Barbarians and Denver Rugby Club, the latter comprised of the Denver Highlanders and Queen City, are joining together to play at Dick’s Sporting Good Park.

Denver, CO March 5th, 2010 -- The two rugby organizations kick off their partnership at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park with three exciting matches.  The most exciting part of this partnership is that the two organizations wish to collaborate in order to bring more exposure and excitement to the sport by playing their matches at the same venue and pooling their resources to get the word out about rugby.

Matthew Berry, Co-President Denver Rugby Club says, “We love this opportunity to join with the Barbarians to play in a professional atmosphere.  We look forward to working towards growing rugby in Colorado.”

“The Barbo's and the Highlanders have been rivals for as long as rugby has been in Denver.  If you love one, you hate the other.  It is outstanding to be able to work together with the common goal of growing our sport locally”, Rob O’Connor, General Manager
Denver Barbarians Rugby said.

O’Connor added, “Denver and Colorado area teams in general need to begin working together, rather than apart, if we are going to be able to put on large scale stadium events of this caliber.  On any given weekend each spring, there are 20 or more rugby matches going on in parks all across town.  Men’s, Women’s, and Youth Rugby of all levels each have their own following.  By bringing those teams together, we can put rugby on a much bigger stage.”

The two organizations are reaching out not only to the rugby community but also the general public to educate them about rugby. They would like to invite you to come out this weekend to watch the kickoff of this season at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
